Cromwell Medical is in a unique position to offer internationally educated highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist, experienced in Early Years Complex Needs and Paediatric Dysphagia (0-5) a support package within a reputable NHS trust.

 

Overall Purpose of The Post:

The post holder will provide highly specialist clinical input to EY children with complex needs and dysphagia, as well as supporting the development of services in this clinical area.  She/he will have day-to-day responsibility for coordinating a speech and language therapy service in the specialism.   She/he will:

  • Use highly specialist clinical skills to manage a specialist caseload of children with complex needs, aged 0-5 years with impaired speech, language and communication in the context of complex neuro-developmental difficulties – including autistic spectrum / social communication disorder, cerebral palsy, profound and multiple learning difficulties, complex medical conditions, and eating & drinking difficulties; identify, assess and diagnose communication and/or dysphagia impairments, and select appropriate patients and type of therapy for effective evidence based treatment
  • Use highly specialist clinical skills to manage a specialist caseload of pre-weaned and weaned children (including children who are non-orally fed) aged 0-5 years in the community with eating and drinking difficulties including children with wider complex needs; identify, assess and diagnose feeding/swallowing impairments, and select appropriate patients and type of therapy for effective evidence-based treatment
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary assessment and interventions of children up to 5 years Support service development for EY children with complex needs and dysphagia together with the Clinical Leads for CDT, ASD, Dysphagia and Early Years Complex Needs (EYCN)
  • Have a specialist advisory role for the Trust in this specialty area, giving service-wide second and expert opinions
  • Take responsibility for service-wide developments as appropriate
  • Independently take students on placement for clinical teaching and supervision, including exam placement
  • Take a clinical leadership role for registered and unregistered staff working at lower grades and volunteers

 

Eligibility:

  • HCPC registration or in process (desirable)
  • Driving licence (essential) 
  • Excellent English communication skills (essential)
  • 36-48+ months experience
