Description:

Band 5 Registered Nurse – Plastic Trauma

Location: Aylesbury (HP21 8AL)

Contract Length: 2–3 months (anticipated)

Start: ASAP

Hours: Up to 37.5 hours per week (part-time considered)

Working Pattern: Primarily Monday–Friday, 08:00–18:00 (flexibility available)

Priority Cover Days: Thursdays and Fridays.




Overview of the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to support the Plastic Trauma service within the Surgical Assessment Unit. This role sits within a fast-paced specialist environment managing acute presentations such as hand trauma, infections, and burns.

The position involves close collaboration with the Plastic Surgery team, contributing to both procedural support and patient care across assessment and recovery stages.



Core Duties

  • Support clinicians during minor plastic surgery procedures within the unit
  • Deliver safe administration of intravenous medications in line with policy
  • Undertake patient assessments and assist in clinical decision-making processes
  • Perform wound care, including complex dressing management
  • Provide post-procedure care and monitor patient recovery
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate ongoing treatment plans
  • Ensure accurate clinical documentation and adherence to governance standards.





Candidate Profile

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) with active registration
  • Background in one of the following:
    • Theatre Scrub (RN) or ODP
    • Surgical ward environments
    • Outpatient or clinic-based settings
  • Confident in IV medication administration
  • Competent in wound care and dressing techniques
  • Able to work effectively in a high-turnover clinical setting.



Service Insight

The Plastic Surgery Trauma Service functions as a regional referral centre for acute plastic and reconstructive cases. The Surgical Assessment Unit operates daily trauma clinics where patients receive rapid evaluation and treatment planning from the on-call specialist team. This environment offers exposure to a diverse case mix, particularly in hand injuries and burn-related care.

  • Flexible scheduling can be discussed based on availability
  • Strong preference for candidates able to cover end-of-week demand
