Band 5 RGN Ophthalmic Nurse – Agency Role | Bristol

Pay Rate: £20 per hour

Contract Length: 4–8 weeks (with potential to extend)

We are currently recruiting an experienced and motivated Band 5 RGN Ophthalmic Nurse for an agency placement within leading NHS Trusts in Bristol. This is an excellent short‑term opportunity offering competitive agency pay, consistent shifts, and the possibility of extension.

Role Overview

As an Ophthalmic Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality eye care services in a busy and supportive clinical setting. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to assess, support, and treat both adult and paediatric patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct ophthalmic assessments for adult and paediatric patients
• Use a slit lamp confidently and accurately for examinations
• Support clinics and patient flow within ophthalmology services
• Maintain high standards of patient care, safety, and documentation
• Work collaboratively with consultants, nurses, and healthcare assistants

Essential Requirements

• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with valid NMC registration
• Proven ophthalmology experience
• Proficiency in slit lamp examinations (essential)
• Ability to assess both adult and paediatric patients
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to adapt quickly in an agency/NHS environment

Shift Patterns

• Early Shift: 07:45 – 16:30
• Late Shift: 09:15 – 18:00

(Shifts provided based on service requirements)

Candidate Requirements

• Registered Adult Nurse with active NMC registration
• Minimum 6 months’ experience in an acute or emergency hospital environment
• Current mandatory compliance (BLS, Infection Control, Manual Handling, etc.)
• Eligibility to work in the UK
