Band 5 Neonatal Nurse (RNC)

Band: Band 5

Contract Type: Temporary Contract/ Agency (Flexible shifts available)

Role Overview

We are seeking reliable and consistent Band 5 Neonatal Nurses (RNC) to support Neonatal Units within a busy NHS setting. The role involves delivering high-quality, family-centred care to premature and critically ill newborns, working within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective clinical outcomes.




Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based care to neonates requiring intensive, high dependency, or special care
  • Monitor and assess neonates, recognising and responding to clinical deterioration
  • Support advanced neonatal care including thermoregulation, feeding support, and respiratory care (including CPAP/ventilation where appropriate)
  • Administer medications and intravenous therapies in line with neonatal protocols
  • Work closely with parents and families, promoting bonding and providing education and support
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with NMC and Trust standards
  • Collaborate with neonatologists, paediatricians, and the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Adhere to infection prevention, safeguarding, and clinical governance policies



Essential Requirements

  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration (RNC / RN Child – Neonatal experience essential)
  • Proven experience working within a Neonatal Unit (NICU/SCBU/HDU)
  • Safeguarding Level 2 certification (mandatory)
  • Neonatal or Paediatric Life Support (NLS/PLS) training (mandatory)
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments
  • Demonstrated reliability and consistency in attendance and performance



Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with ventilated neonates and intensive care settings
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Additional neonatal competencies or specialist courses



Working Pattern

  • Flexible shifts including days, nights, and weekends
  • Full-time and part-time options available depending on service needs
