Job Description – Intensive Care Nurse (ICU/ITU/CCU RGN) – Basingstoke


Job Summary

We are looking for a dedicated and highly competent Intensive Care Nurse (ICU/ITU/CCU RGN) to join our healthcare team in Basingstoke. The successful candidate will bring strong critical care expertise, with experience in ICU settings, advanced patient monitoring, airway management, and complex clinical procedures, while delivering compassionate, patient-focused care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients, including monitoring vital signs, administering IV medications, injections, and managing ventilators.
  • Carry out detailed patient assessments, including physical checks and diagnostic reviews.
  • Perform advanced nursing procedures such as intubation, catheterisation (Foley and central lines), suturing, and managing enteral feeding.
  • Adhere strictly to infection prevention standards and maintain aseptic techniques during all invasive procedures.
  • Accurately record patient care and updates using electronic health record systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including consultants and specialists across trauma, infectious diseases, and palliative care to deliver tailored care plans.
  • Support discharge planning and coordinate ongoing care, including community or home care services.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medication use, pain relief, and long-term condition management such as dementia or Alzheimer’s care where needed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in line with NCQA and HIPAA standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Registered General Nurse (Adult) with a valid NMC registration.
  • At least 6 months’ experience in an acute hospital environment (NHS experience preferred).
  • Current mandatory certifications (e.g., BLS, Infection Control, Manual Handling).
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
